What is this?
Grand Theft Auto 2 (DMA Design, 1999), running from the community's reconstruction of its original code, compiled for the web. It plays like the original, with modern extras: widescreen, a smoother camera, smooth motion on high-refresh screens, a map with waypoints, and co-op.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The first visit downloads the game once (about 355 MB) and keeps it in your browser, so later visits start straight away. Use a desktop browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari or Brave, on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS.
How does co-op work?
Press "Host or join", host a room, and send your friends the link the lobby shows. When everyone is in, pick a district and start. Every player's browser runs the whole game; only key presses travel between you. Hold Tab for the scoreboard; your friends show on the map and radar in their own colours.
Where are my saves?
In this browser. Use "Export saves" at the bottom of the game screen to keep a copy, and "Import saves" to bring them to another browser.
It runs slowly or looks wrong
Turn on the FPS counter in Options. Close other heavy tabs, and try another browser if it stays low. "Motion: Original 30 fps" and "Screen shape: 4:3 original" are the lightest settings.
Is it legal?
GTA2 was released as freeware by Rockstar Games in 2004. This is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project, not affiliated with Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. GTA2 is © Rockstar Games.

locally and never leave this computer.
Free roam with friends in a story district, using GTA2's own multiplayer. Everyone runs the game; only key presses travel between players.
They go directly from browser to browser (peer to peer, no game server). Each player needs their own copy of the game files.
